Recent Longboarding Action in the Northwest
COME AND SKATE! Festivities start around 9:00, 10:00 ish' and go until past 6:00pm, basically all day. Its a great way to soak up Seafair, watch the Blue Angels, hang out with like minded skaters and try a bunch of new boards. Expect to see board demos from companys like, Insect, Longboard Larry, Bentley, Sector 9, Never Summer, Loaded, Arbor, Gravity, Totem Boards, Kahuna, and more.
GIBSONS OUTLAW A HUGE SUCCESS!Robin McGuirk wins by less than a board length over Morrow 2nd with Hovey 3rd and Mitchell 4th. Congrats to David Mitchell for throwing a classy longboard race in Salem Oregon that went off great(except for some curious deer checking out the course on the finals heat). Everyone that was there had a rad time and next year is sure to be even better! For more Pictures click here.
15 riders attempted the McNarlee as Billy Meiners takes the win over Morrow 2nd, Robin 3rd, and Hovey 4th.One crazy course for a bunch of crazy skaters. Props to Casey Morrow For hosting a sick race on his backyard hill. A great mini ramp session followed to finish out the day. HOORAY FOR OUTLAW SKATEBOARD RACES!
Burnside Bomb a Great Success!1st - Robin "The Leg" McGuirk Potholes, gravel, oil spots, recessed manhole covers, 50 MPH straights, tunnels and stoplights... The Burnside Bomb had it all. After a dark bumpy ride in the back of a sweet U-Haul up the course, all 11 crazy riders arrived at the top. And some of us had no idea what we were getting into! After a good explanation from Billy The Kid, we were on our way, Chinese downhill style every man for himself. It was Dennis out in front right away, tucking tight through some nasty pavement. Into the the tunnel and it Huey and Robin were joining him in the lead. The rest of us were going fast but a bit more cautiously. Casey ended up passing in the downtown section through stoplights and trolley tracks to take fourth, respectively. Dennis was in front With only one gnar crash by Dareld that he walked away from, an awesome awards ceremony with Voodoo donoughts, sweet trophy, and a killer morning session at the Burside skatepark, it was definetly worth waking up at 3:45am for! Thanks for a great time Billy and PDX Downhill! -JayBoy pic.
Tri City Outlaw Results!1st - Ryan Sorensen - Portland Checkout this picture of the final heat, where there was some tight racing between Huey and Ryan. Huey passed Ryan after this picture, but Ryan caught up and passed Huey right before the finish. Locals Zach and David took 3rd and 4th after passing some dudes who took a wrong turn and out themselves out, haha! What a great race! A huge thanks goes to Noah for putting on such a great event! For being a first event and never having attended one he did an outstanding job getting people organized, making sure riders where safe, and over all just being a great ambassador of out sport. And also to the course workers/spotters who stood out in the 100+ degree weather to keep riders safe and everyone else who made the race possible. With people like that the Tri City scene is gonna get huge!
After tedious planning the 'SHOOG SHOWDOWN is gonna happen in Washougal, WA (25-30 mins north of Portland, OR) on September 14th 2008. We will meet at my house (5 mins away from the hill), breif for the race, and go out to the hill and get in a few practice runs then start the race heats. This hill is a technical 45mph run and very fun, full face and full pads and gloves recommended at the least. I would definately recommend bringing your leathers!!!!! This is not a beginners race. But people to come and block traffic are always welcome and there will be a mini-ramp session afterwards too!! (this is an outlwaw race so remember kids, bomb at your own risk).EMAIL ME for info @ ncalafato91@yahoo.com
Congrats to Insect rider Spencer Smith from Bellevue Wa on FIRST PLACE in the Juniors Division at Vernon!Vernon was Spencer's second race and he killed it, being the only American to podium. Spencer is going to be a force to reckoned with this season!
